Inside garden?

Want to bring a little early spring into your life? Try forcing bulbs inside. I've started mine and it's fun to watch the bulbs sprout and grow a little each day. In a month I'll have daffodils in bloom in my house. Below the picture is a link to a sight that tells you how to do it. Happy gardening!!!

Health & Beauty List for 2012

Dr. Oz has a list of healthy items that should be on your grocery list. Now I have a list of health and beauty items for you to try. This list has been comprised over a period of years of trying different things and selecting those items that worked well for me, or were already proven to help with certain ailments or health issues:

2 teaspoons of blueberries every day-blueberries are a great source of antioxidants and are supposed to help with memory too

Tumeric-GNC has a memory supplement and the main ingredient is tumeric, which is a spice you can buy. To use it yourself it can be sprinkled in chicken dishes and must be heated to be effective.

cinnamon-a teaspoon added to your cereal or yogurt is good for your heart and circulatory system. It also has the added benefit of being an anti-depressant.

Pureolgy shampoos & conditioners-BEST shampoo and conditioners for color-treated hair. They have a great selection depending on your needs but all are alkaline free. Available at ULTA.

Isomers Skin Care-If you want great skin now and in your future you've got to try Isomers. A friend turned me onto Isomers about four months ago and my skin has NEVER looked better! Available at: http://www.shopnbc.com/

2000 units of vitamin D a day, 3000 in winter months if you live in a cold winter climate.

To natually lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, add walnuts, avocado and oatmeal to your diet. These "good" fats are great for your skin and hair too.

I'll be adding to this list on a monthly basis so check back in! Have a great day!

Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Do you have a New Years resolution? I do. I want to thank  my friend Nan for turning me onto Weight Watchers and a few other fantastic health and beauty ideas. I only have 20 lbs. to lose and my first goal is 10 lbs. by spring.

The thing I really like about weight watchers is the fact that you don't have to totally change your lifestyle. I was meeting a group of great high school friends about once a month for lunch and I'm still able to do that. I usually eat a salad for lunch and most restaurants, like the Cheesecake Factory have a great "Skinny-licious" menu. I personally love their Factory Chopped Salad and I order the lo-cal dressing on the side.

I'm doing the weight watchers online because it's easy, relatively inexpensive and I have the app. on my iphone. It makes keeping track of my points very convenient.

Kudos to my friend Nan who lost 75 pounds and looks gorgeous. She is a great inspiration to me. Losing the weight helped her get off her BP medication and she does not have to worry about taking diabetes medication.

Give yourself a gift and get healthy this year, whether it be losing weight, getting regular exercise or quitting smoking. And feel free to let us know about it here at the Ladies Salon. Supporting each other is what this blog is all about!

Mascara of the Month

Mascara of the Month: Rimmel Lash Accelerator

I'm not a big fan of cosmetic augmentation, but this Rimmel Lash Accelerator is great to use to enhance your eyelashes. The makers of this product claim that after you use their Lash Accelerator your lashes will instantly look up to 80% longer on the first application, and after a month, up to 117% longer.

The mascara’s consistency is easy to spread, so it coats individual lashes and builds length on the ends. One of the Lash Accelerator's qualities is that you don't have to worry about smudging. The pigment doesn't flake or smear and it's also gentle and easy to remove with makeup remover.

The theory is that the mascara's waxy texture keeps lashes soft and won't become brittle and break. Your lashes feel conditioned and moisturized. The formula contains several ingredients that soften and strengthen your lashes including biotin, peptides, keratin and bamboo extract.

After about a month you will notice a very satisfying enhancement to your lashes. They will become longer and thicker, plus you'll have a fantastic mascara to use as part of your makeup. So really, it's two products in one.

Rimmel Lash Accelerator, $8, available at walmart.com.
